T/TR For Thursday...

Hello all,

Today, we had a busy class. First, Jill Boby of the Service Learning Office came in and visited with us. She provided many opportunities to us for our three-hour service commitment for Project Three: the part of the project where we share our knowledge and our passion. Jill gave three Eckerd contacts-Guardian work with Kayla Finney at phinnek@eckerd.edu, ECOs (making sandwiches and such for the homeless) with Mike Collins at collinmj@eckerd.edu, and Awesome Recycling with Joanna Cardao at cardaojm@eckerd.edu. Jill also encouraged you to visit her in the office for more information. Her emails is bobayjm@gmail.com Here are a couple of the pages of contacts, and I will email the other contacts to you. Remember, you will want to start working on this section of the project now. The log is located on engrade, and I will also email it all to you.



In addition, Brianna, Christine, John, Cameron, Chris G, Chris A., Breck Kelley, Silke Gapsis, Kayla, Devin, Rhianna, and Zoah received a Get out of Jail free card (good for one annotated bibliography or extra credit opportunity).

During the discussion about Vogler, Prof. Breck used socratic questioning to get everyone involved. I discovered that a lot of you really like cartoons. Devin mentioned the elections as the resurrection and the elixer, and I would love to discuss this more on Thursday after the election. I think it was a really good observations.

We also discussed the project 3 four modes rhetorical analysis. We discussed why we are locating four presentations (a book, a song, a film, and a piece of art) to teach others about our topic. We also looked the handout which you will need to bring to class on Thursday for in-class work. We did an example analysis on the American Apparel ad.

We then shifted to doing peer review on our project two revised drafts. I gave a handout to you all for peer review. (FYI-F/T focus and thesis, PoA-progression of argument, DofI-Development of Ideas, EofT-evolution of thought, IoR-Illustration of research, and ADS-academic discourse style.) Please make sure that you complete your peer reviews by Thursday. You may also want to use the peer review exercise on your personal text, as it is the assessment tool that we will be using to evaluate ourselves and our peer's texts. Remember, you don't have to resubmit your draft to me for a second revision, BUT I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO DO SO. Remember, sharing your ideas with others helps to make them stronger.

Read-No fiction readings (just work on revision of project two and posting of four modes for project three)

Write-revision and peer review notes

Four modes posted on blog
Select and inquire about volunteer
Revise and resubmit draft (optional)---Polished draft is due on Nov. 11.
