Hello all,
Today in class, we discussed the feedback that you provided to me about the course work and expectations. I urge you to all complete the mid-term evaluation of the course. Click Here to take survey)
The survey really helps me to see what you think of the work we are doing. As a result of some of your feedback, I have decided to take a step back from the readings. Thus, this week we are going to have one-on-one conferences on Weds., Thursday, or Friday. Please sign up at ecandp2008fall.blogspot.com for your appointment. During this appointment, you need to bring your i-search text. At the meetings, we will be discussing the inquiry, research, and outlining.
In class, we discussed Vogler's Crossing of the First Threshold and Tests, allies, and enemies. Professor John C led our discussion. John had some great observations, and Cindy B had a great observation about how these stages are really extensions of the mentor's training. Kayla, Zoah, Breck, Devin, and Christine kept the "ball" rolling as we shifted to discussing a hero's motivation and faith. Great discussion.
We ended the day by "seeing" how rhetorical arrangement really "works." Using large beachballs, we went through the various stages of academic arrangement. We talked about how important telling your readers what you think and showing your readers why to believe you is in academic communication. I really liked the "pot-ball." As we move to outlining/prewriting our drafts, you will want to "be the ball" when concerning yourselves with issues of structure. Remember papers are inquiries, paragraphs are inquiries, and sentences are inquiries....Just keep asking the right questions.
We also reviewed the I-Search. You only need to conduct one of the three interviews. The I-search will need to be posted on google docs. by Friday and brought to our conference, so happy working. However, we did get the chance to go to the Library. YEAH!!! Remember to keep in touch with Helene and her team. You are all scholars now.
